A-Level Results 2010: Interview with top arts student Dawn Chen

By Annabelle

When first tasked with interviewing the top arts student, I did not expect someone quite as chatty as Dawn. Her initial reaction upon receiving her results was shock, sheer shock, since she wasn’t exactly expecting 8As. As a matter of fact, she expected mostly Bs and Cs and maybe 2As at most. She even told her mother to be prepared for the worst, and her mother’s heartwarming response was “Don’t worry, even if you fail everything, we’ll work something out.” Her mother who initially expected her to fail couldn’t believe Dawn’s amazing results.

Dawn believes that consistent work and help from her teachers and classmates have led to her extraordinary results. She also highlights that “Mugging does NOT work”. Dawn did well academically in J1 but did not do as well in J2 – this is in fact her first time getting straight As. She also tells us that she’s been dreaming about getting Cs, Ds, Es and a U for the past week. Another thing she shares with us is the importance of sleep. In fact, she slept at 11pm the night before the release of A-level results, which she tells us is late for her since she sleeps at 10pm on school nights. I guess it’s time for all of us to catch up on some sleep, and that means we need to stop sleeping at dawn (pun intended).
