Appreciation Monday

By Obsession

As Teachers’ Day approaches, we take the time to thank and appreciate the hard work they put in to ensure that we get a good well rounded education. It’s, in my opinion, a thankless task. They grade papers, force homework and tutorials on us and plan for their next lesson. In return, we just grumble about boring lectures and the monstrous pile of tutorials awaiting us. I can’t see how they do it. It must truly be a calling because I would never be able to stand the dreariness of school after I graduate.

But even as I thought about it, I realised that many of the important people in our lives get even less appreciation. The cleaners in our school don’t get a “Happy Custodians’ Day!”, we don’t thank the bus drivers that take the same boring routes up and down Singapore throughout the day, day after day, just so that we can conveniently travel to and from places. I could think of very many people all around us that we don’t take the time to thank, and often we get frustrated with them. But, the people in our lives that we abuse and take for granted the most are the ones that we are the closest to. The ones that we should, in theory, treat the best – Our parents.

A Night Of Laughter

By Christy

Different ways to laugh …. dignified, contagious, joyous and GIGGLING!

When this writer proceeded towards the Black Box of the CPA, ticket in hand, many doubts were in my head. After all, that was the first time that I will be attending a performance by our very own ACSian Theatre (yes I know, I’m embarrassed at my own lack of support for the group too) and my only knowledge about the group came from my friends who had either watched their performance or were members of the group itself. However, I must admit that their comments-that of them being school performers who successfully work around restrictions in resources to give a very professional performance-was correct. Their performance was simply stellar, given their limited resources and rehearsal time. Kudos to them! :)

The Starfish Story for the Uninitiated

FAT ONES, SKINNY ONES, DEAD ONES and FAKE ONES

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a figure in the distance. As he got closer, he realized the figure was that of a little boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”

National Day Celebrations 2009: some blurry photos

You would never have guessed from their languid cynicism during NE lessons that ACJC students were the sort who would climb onto their chairs at the drop of a hat and shake their collective booty to the patriotic tune of “Count on me, Singapore”. Let alone the sort who would shake flags that they’d brought themselves:

“Ready, boys?”

Thoughts about the 2009 J1 Parents-Teachers Dialogue

by Soapy

It was that time of the year again for the JC1s, when the parents and teachers were given the opportunity to meet and to talk about the students. This year’s parents-teachers dialogue was held on 15th August. While the teachers reported their students’ progress, or lack thereof, the students were on tenterhooks, worrying about whether their teachers would say anything bad about them in front of their parents, which would result in even stricter parents and less freedom. Some accompanied their parents to see their teachers. However, there were those – either couch potatoes, or students who just couldn’t face their parents and teachers together – who stayed at home.

Good Day by Click 5

By BERliN

Woke up early in my hotel room
Wait for my alarm to go
I think about the things I’ve gotta do
Damn my mind is gonna blow

I’m freaking out about what’s ahead
Maybe I’ll just stay in bed
Cause it’s no fun to be the one
Going out of my head
So I tell it to myself again

5 Things I Could Do With

by Lala

With teachers rushing to finish tutorials in time for our tests next week, PW WR due on Friday, this week has been a hectic week for me. Just when I think I want to give up, I can’t, because all the tests I’ve been preparing for (well, seemingly preparing for…with the amount of time I spend in school) are all next week! There’s Chemistry, Math, GP and biology. I could do with less homework, but here are five this of which I could do with more.

Health Week 2009

By Lala

Health week 2009 was held from 3rd to 6th August. It was the first “Health Week” of my life (my secondary school didn’t do this) and was a rather interesting experience. There was this whole air of “health awareness” around the candeck; this is where you can buy lollipops to encourage your friends. (Buy how exacly are lollipops ‘healthful’ or ‘helpful’?)

Facebook Games

By Obsession

Some moons ago, the reigning fad on Facebook was multiple quizzes Now,  it appears that many have moved on from these useless time fillers to a different, more efficient time waster, Facebook games. I haven’t personally tried most of them but I (dare) assume that apart from the fading glory of proving that you’ve beat a friend’s high score, these games do nothing for you.
How does playing FarmVille, make you a better person. Hmm… one does not become a better farmer though playing this game or do we?  Restaurant City appears to be a repetitive game as you are on the endless thankless task of obtaining “recipes” that wouldn’t work in the real world and “ingredients” that don’t physically exist. Games like Word Challenge aren’t fun; we only play it because we don’t want to have a lower ranking than our friends.
Please don’t waste what little free time you have at the end of the school day. Some things just are not worth it.

That is just my point of view. What is your cup of tea today?

How to survive this week

 See full size image

By- Obsession
We hate Mondays. It’s the one day of the week that everyone dreads because we have to go back to school / work. In fact the only good thing I can think of regarding Mondays is our weekly morning chapel. Once that is over, however, we pick up our bags and trudge on to our various lectures and classes. It’s the same routine day in and day out and most of us hardly can pause to catch our breath before the last school bell rings.
To reduce the pain of a new week of school, here are 10 things that you can do to make your  (er…)life easier.
