There Will Be Blood: Blood Donation Drive 2009

maniAC was there on 21 May to capture the entire blood donation experience – queuing, bleeding, Milo and biscuits – on an ancient mobile phone camera. It’s possible that those of a highly nervous disposition may find one or two of the following photos a bit unnerving.

Boys vs Girls – Selective much? Part 2

By Christy

Like what the title suggests, this article is about the other part of the selectiveness of guys – that of selective memory. You see, having selective hearing is already bad enough, but when it is coupled with an inefficient memory (or a malfunctioning one, rather) what you get is a fragmented person. Unfortunately, we do not have programs like the computer’s disk defragmenter that we can run on these people to get their memory together and compress those unwanted bits, therefore the best we can do is just to hope and pray that they listen to what we are telling them and actually bother to remember it.

The Question of Rugby

By Sarah Wong and Kurobu

The sun was burning so brightly, illuminating the field where the battle was to begin. The numerous flies lurking in the grass were roused by the many feet that plodded about. The occasional shriek pierced the air, followed by the sound of hands frantically swatting the air as the flies, disturbed, decided to attack. The tension was so thick that only a deranged homicidal maniac armed with an industrial strength, diamond-edged chain saw could cut it. The relentless heat weighed down on the masses of ACJC and RIJC students congregating around the rugby field, who were undoubtedly blaming Global Warming. This would be the setting for the much vaunted rugby match.Of course, if you are reading this blog, it would stand to reason that you are an ACJC student, which would allow one to logically deduce that you attended the match. That in turn would mean that you would know everything that went on, and anything we report about the match wouldn’t exactly be news. Thus you would be glad to know this won’t be about the match but instead be about…

Music Madness – Bayside

By lala

When you listen to certain songs, they bring back certain memories. Feeling nostalgic, I decided to trawl through my iTunes looking for this particular band I used to listen to frequently last year, instead of asking my friends for new music to recommend to me.

I wanted to relive the stress-free days (think: post O-levels with 4am nights and no one being able to say anything about it) as there simply aren’t such days anymore with concurrent tests, tutorials and lectures going on. I wanted to write on a band that was special to me, not just “another band”. I wanted other people to know this band; and hence, today I will write about this amazing band that touched my life, in the hopes that it will touch you too.

Final 2009 CCA Season Photospam

And so this marks the end of our CCA season for the year 2009, finishing on a high-note as our Soccer boys achieved 2nd runners-up in the 3rd/4th play-off.

We round-up pictorially with some photos from that fixture as well our Rugby final.

Free Rice

By Julian

So Kurobu posted an article on rice,

http://sites.acjc.edu.sg/wpress/?p=1165.

I got reminded of a site which a friend told me about last year.

It’s pretty neat, not to mention simple, actually.

American Idol – A Review

By Obsession

Last week was the season 8 finale of American Idol. It seems to me that this season of American Idol has had a lot less hype than previous seasons. Last year my class had a huge debate about David A. versus David C. This year, I hardly realised that there was a new season of AI until they were down to their last four contestants. Despite this, for the following three weeks after learning about the “new” season, I religiously sat in front of my magic box and watched as yet another group of idol wannabes held their annual sing-off.

Dummies Guide 101: How To Play Rugby

By Lala and Soapy

With rugby in ACJC being such a big sport as shown on Friday, the people here at maniAC have decided to help those that don’t know a single thing about rugby, by giving them a Dummies Guide 101: How To Play Rugby…or know how it’s played, at the very least.

While some girls know that soccer could very well be a game where “20 men chase after a ball while two others try their best to keep it away from them”, ask them what rugby is all about, and you might possibly get a blank face. Never fail, maniAC will help the rugby player in you prevail!

For the uninitiated, a rugby ball looks nothing like a soccer ball, or tennis ball, or any other rounded ball. Instead, it is elongated, pretty much like an egg.

Uphill – the last week of term can sometimes be the hardest

By OriAna

Uphill

‘Does the road wind up-hill all the way?
Yes, to the very end.
Will the day’s journey take the whole long day?
From morn to night, my friend.

But is there for the night a resting-place?
A roof for when the slow dark hours begin.
May not the darkness hide it from my face?
You cannot miss that inn.

Shall I meet other wayfarers at night?
Those who have gone before.
Then must I knock, or call when just in sight?
They will not keep you standing at that door.

Shall I find comfort, travel-sore and weak?
Of labor you shall find the sum.
Will there be beds for me and all who seek?
Yea, beds for all who come.’

What Being An ACJC Arts Student Means To Me

*by Zach Tan*

I have a confession to make.

I came into ACJC as a Science student. After the first day though, it hit me that I barely scraped through Bs for both my Sciences during my ‘O’ levels, and that was when I made the decision to hop over to the Arts faculty. And I haven’t looked back since. Continue Reading…

So I happened to come across an image presenting a rather wonderful description of humanity.

Behold: The Decline of Civilisation, compressed into a column of six captioned pictures. Enjoy.

Rice.

By Kelly Ng

So recently I’ve been bugged and nagged at about my total lack of compassion for charity work and giving back to the community. You know the drill.

Personally, I thought this was rather unfair. I mean, I do my CIP, like everybody else – every other week, to be specific. But no, somebody has been telling me I am a cold-hearted scoundrel who does nothing for the plights of the homeless or starving children. Continue Reading…
