Serenade 2010: First Harp Concert Ever.

by Rach

Serenade was held on the 14th of May, and it was the ACJC Harp Ensemble’s first ever concert, put up in celebration of ten years of harp music. The night featured not only the harpist themselves, but also alumni of the ensemble, plus other solo players from other CCAs.

Pictures speak a thousand words, so let the pictures do the talking.

AC Celebrations 2010 – CNY and Valentine’s Day

By Christy

“We’re symbols, and proud of it.”

The day was 12 January, 2010. This writer was experiencing dread and excitement simultaneously at the prospect of going to school. Dread because of having to endure a full session of mass PE (otherwise known as “torture sessions”) even though it was Friday and supposed to be a “day of celebration” of Chinese New Year – we would have been able to miss PE if it had been just one period later!!!! But excitement at the same time because it meant I could skip 3 hours of lectures, which would be replaced by a concert that would last longer than any other school concert I had ever attended.

Old and New – CCAs

By Esther Mae

I’ve spent eight years in choir. Recently, I decided to do a CCA-switch as I feel that I need to develop more holistically in the performing arts. As my mother always reminds me, music and drama go hand-in-hand. Nervously, excitedly, I attended the text auditions for ACSian Theatre.

SMC Japan’s trip

By Soapy

The SMC Japan educational programme 2009 was held from 13th November to 19th November. This author herself had the golden opportunity of taking part in this programme, and would like to share some of the highlights of the trip. Overall, the trip was an awesome experience as I learnt a lot from it, as well as made many new friends. I even had the chance to interact with the Japanese school kids! The Japanese culture is so different from Singaporean culture. As it would probably bore you talking about every single day of the trip, I will list down some of my favourite attractions throughout the whole trip.

The Count of Monte Cristo

A few days ago, this writer attended a play  titled ’The Count Of Monte Cristo’ as performed by the ACJC Drama Club. This play chronicles the life of an (originally) honest and trusting but eventually bitter and revengeful young man, Edmund Dantes, as he seeks to slowly destroy the three deceitful men who had him wrongfully imprisoned because they were jealous of his achievements. He attempts to accomplish this by using the treasure he found off an island called Monte Cristo, helped by directions given to him by an old monk whom he met in prison, Abbe Faria. With the newfound title of the Count Of Monte Cristo, he continues his rampage as “a hammer of God”, as he calls himself, to reward those who helped him and kill those who brought him down.

When CCA stops, you know that exams are very, very, Soon…

By Lala

Last Wednesday, the ACJC Harp Ensemble had its last CCA meeting of the year before the JC1 promotional exams. While most CCAs had already stopped, we had one more meeting, as we needed to catch up on lessons.

10 Things I Hate About You – A review

It’s been a while since my last television related post, so I guess it’s time I returned to my specialty subject. This is especially so since the new fall season has started.

ACTeacher’s Day celebrations

There have been so many recent posts regarding teachers day this week, because, teacher’s day is truly the most exciting thing that happened last week. Unlike most other schools, Teachers’ Day in AC was celebrated on Friday instead of Monday due to the J2 prelims. But it didn’t matter which day we celebrated the event, the atmosphere of the college last week was particularly festive especially as we took the time to wish some of our teachers “A Very Happy Teachers’ Day “when we saw them during our tutorials.

A Night Of Laughter

By Christy

Different ways to laugh …. dignified, contagious, joyous and GIGGLING!

When this writer proceeded towards the Black Box of the CPA, ticket in hand, many doubts were in my head. After all, that was the first time that I will be attending a performance by our very own ACSian Theatre (yes I know, I’m embarrassed at my own lack of support for the group too) and my only knowledge about the group came from my friends who had either watched their performance or were members of the group itself. However, I must admit that their comments-that of them being school performers who successfully work around restrictions in resources to give a very professional performance-was correct. Their performance was simply stellar, given their limited resources and rehearsal time. Kudos to them! :)

NDC@acjc A moment of pure pleasure

The ACJC Choir sang the haunting beautiful Piyutim-Adon Olam by Eran Dinur. In brief, Adon Olam highlights the relationship between man and God  and how this relationship is one of complete entity of trust and acceptance.

Something else of interest. Eran Dinur was commissioned by the college to write these 2 piyutim (s?). He is an Iran composer whose music has been featured in Iranian films and who has worked , or is still working with Lucas Productions , SIngapore.

Ever wondered what the words mean? Interested? Read on…

I wish I were there

By – Obsession

It’s that time of year, when geeks from all over emerge from the musty darkness of their parents’ basement and gather together at the San Diego Convention Centre. To the uninitiated, the convention centre played host to a myriad of monsters and aliens last weekend, but we geeks can differentiate at a glance the trekies, whonatics, galatica fans, star wars fans and well, the fans of any kind of science fiction series there are.

Seasons of Love From Rent

By BERliN

525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear. 525,600 minutes – how do you measure, measure a year? In daylight, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee.
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife. In 525,600 minutes -
How do you measure a year in the life?
How about love? How about love? How about love?
Measure in love.
Seasons of love.

How can you measure
the life of a woman or man?
In truths that she learned, or in times that he cried.
In bridges he burned, or
The way that she died.

It’s time now to sing out, tho the story never ends let’s celebrate remember a year in the life of friends. Remember
the love! Measure in love. Seasons of love!
